I tried the tool at http://kb.virgin.freedom.net/index.p...d=331&catId=13 but this seems to have had no effect at all. You should then be able to uninstall without problem. I can't!

But am not impressed and the VirginMedia "helpline" has really put me off anything to do with Virgin. I see from other threads that people are using free AV and Firewall apps. Now when I boot up, I get the Virgin Media box telling to wait while my PC Guard services are loaded. this page I used the PC Guard diagnostic tool, which found no problems, but asked it to repair the anti-virus function.

I will look it up and see what is going on. I decided to follow your advice and try Dr.Web which gives a 30 day free trial.
