Problem Installing Windows Updates: "Some Updates Were Unable To Be Installed"

Thread Status: Not open for further replies. How do I fix this? All the updates got installed without an error (about 58 updates most of them were security update, SP3 and IE8). I have tried everything suggested. get redirected here

I then had a look at the update history and it said it had just tried to install these 3 through automatic updates and failed. So what is the problem?? All the programs are working fine except the 'updates cannot be installed error'. If you are still using sp2 i don't think you will be able to install these updates as you may have to upgrade to sp3 for installation. I then get a list of the updates that were not installed with the ever helpful message "updates were unable to be successfully installed". and I was able to google the error message Windows update gave me.
